The area
The Eixample is Barcelona's nineteenth-century grid — Ildefons Cerdà's chamfered blocks running from Plaça Catalunya toward the Sagrada Família, lined with modernista façades, tiled vestibules and flats with three-metre ceilings. The Dreta (right side) holds the grandest stock and the highest prices; the Esquerra trades a little of the pomp for better value. Buyers are a mix: local families upgrading, Europeans buying pieds-à-terre, and investors renovating principal floors. Rental demand runs deep year-round from professionals and academics. The premium goes to finished, lift-served fincas regias — original detail plus a modern kitchen remains the winning combination.
